World Galgo Day

The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) recognizes around 400 breeds. However, there is a World Galgo Day on February 1st. Galgos are wonderful dogs, as are many others. What is particularly impressive is the speed of 60 km/h that they can reach, in addition to their gentle nature and elegant appearance. However, if it was only after that, there would have to be a world day for every single dog, because each one is characterized by individual, special characteristics. There is a sad background to why there is a World Galgo Day. February 1st was not chosen for nothing, because on this day the hunting season in Spain ends and heralds the suffering for thousands of these dogs.

We don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable

You eat as well as no more meat. Did you tell me
I looked at you and I knew you were lying.
No, actually you weren’t lying, because almost not much meat,
that’s a matter of interpretation.
What about the pizza, I asked.
Well, pizza, I’ll eat it with salami.
It just tastes too good.

We understand that.
We don’t want you to feel uncomfortable.

How Consumers are deceived

Consumers want to know – it is said again and again – how the animals they eat and whose products they consume are doing. The majority of people oppose factory farming and keep emphasizing that it is okay to slaughter animals and exploit their products as long as they have lived well. Whatever a good life means, the question naturally arises, how do you look at a product in the supermarket and see how the animal lived. The cheapest meat lies next to the expensive meat and just looks the same. You neither hear the screams, nor see the injuries, nor recognize the pain. Everything neatly packaged and set up in a user-friendly manner. It’s interchangeable. How can you explain the difference as briefly and concisely as possible to people who want to shop in a reflective way? After all, you can’t add essays because people don’t have time. It should be clear at first glance what is being bought.

Fur is Murder

It is ethical, again, it is said to wear fur. After almost 30 years of educational work, more fur is being sold than ever before. And that although mink, Persian and fox coats have long since disappeared from our streets. They are considered a relic. Even so, 140,000,000 animals are killed every year for their fur, 85% of them painfully in animal factories. Born in spring, they spend the few months they are allowed to live in narrow wire-mesh cages through which the excrement simply falls to the ground and the soles of their feet are torn open. Finally, they are skinned alive or killed by gas, electric shock or a broken neck.

Fur in Austria

Since 2005, when a nationwide animal protection law came into force, fur farms have been banned in Austria. The production of fur is one side, the trade in it the other. Even if there are no more fur farms in Austria, fur is still sold and processed. Fur industry puts the amount of processed fur exports at € 7.3 million for 2017[1]. This means that it can be assumed that at least a third of this value is imported as fur, because the fur of the 60,000 foxes[2] allegedly shot by Austrian hunters does not necessarily matter.

Knowledge is irreversible (2)

It was a long way from the city center to the outskirts and across the fields until they finally stood in front of the said stable. The moon was shining brightly so they could see every detail. They paused for a few moments. Then Rebekka headed straight for the entrance. Carefully she reached for the handle, pushed it down and, to her great surprise, found the door unlocked. Then she waved to Paul, who had stopped in the field and looked as if he did not want to move a step forward. Rebekah was angry. „Who doesn’t dare to come here!“, she thought as she walked over to Paul, roughly grabbed his arm and pulled him behind her. „I don’t dare,“ she growled as she opened the door.

What Fur really means

We all know that the Stone Age people ate meat and that is why they have become as smart as we are today, so smart that we destroy everything we can find. Very impressive. But that’s only half the story, because the Stone Age people, who were supposed to be our role models in everything, also wore fur. Of course, because organic cotton and hemp fibers did not exist yet. So, you had no other choice. But how did the human female get her fur, because we are so well informed that we know that only the human males hunted while the human females sat at home waiting for the big, strong males to return from their forays. Just as it corresponds to the biologically prescribed roles. Males as hunters – this is how they stalk each other on the supermarket shelf today, at the risk of their lives to get hold of the styrofoam pack and using all their strength to drag them home while the females sit in the safe den and wait for the prey. But we digress, it’s about the fur.

You stole my child from me (3)

My unknown babies!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been laying eggs in the midst of many others. It’s so tight that I can barely move. I have heard that it is good posture, down-to-earth posture. But it’s just cramped and smells. But I could endure all of that if it wasn’t for my babies. I lay eggs because I am a hen. My body does. I lay an egg every day. But I know more.

You stole my child from me (2)

My babies!

You laid next to me and I couldn’t do anything for you, neither for you nor for me. “Mom, why are you just lying there and not building a nest for us? Why don’t you play with us? Don’t you love us?”, you seem to be asking. But it’s because I couldn’t help it. But my martyrdom did not begin when you were born, but a long time before that. I was chosen to have babies. All others are slaughtered after 6 months of suffering, but I was allowed to live longer. What a farce!

Blood, Blood everywhere

We sit in the cave and stare at the wall, not tied up, at least not by physical shackles, but held by conventions, social agreements and apparent inevitability. We do not move so that we can give ourselves the illusion that we are bound by shackles. Only when we moved would we notice that there are no shackles. Illusion of a perfect world in view of the downfall, because the pictures tell us. No, it’s not bad, it’s good. We just have to keep going like we did before. Do not let yourself be distracted from the previous path that was successful. All live in prosperity. All have a refrigerator and a car and a television. If you don’t have it, it’s your own fault. A path of success if you just sit well and stay true to the illusion.
