With whom to sympathize and with whom not? (1)

„Hello mum! Hi Papa! I’m here,“ Katharina let her voice ring through the house after she had pushed open the door to her parents‘ house with a bang. As on every Sunday, she was invited to lunch on this one and was happy to accept this invitation, because then she didn’t have to cook herself. After all, what’s the point of having a mother if you don’t let her cook for you, even when you’re thirty.
„Hello dear!“ her mother returned the greeting. The voice had come from the kitchen, so Katharina went there. Her mother turned to her briefly, hugged her, then immediately turned back to the pots. Her father, who was sitting on the corner seat and had been leafing listlessly through the newspaper, now looked up at her.

The Panda Bear has a hard time (2)

The agent kept a lookout. Finally, she thought she could walk a few steps upright when she heard a noise no doubt made by heavy construction vehicles. Again, part of the forest was cleared, because more living space was needed, more arable land, more space for entertainment and shopping centers, more and more, claimed by people. „If the forest is cleared bit by bit,“ she thought, „the space available to the wild animals will become smaller and smaller. They get closer together. Single individuals meet and the transmission of pathogens is facilitated. If there is enough space and an animal fall ill, then it keeps to itself and dies. The pathogen goes down with it.”

The Panda Bear has a hard time (1)

The special agent crept silently through the thicket in her super camouflage robe. She had an explosive, top-secret mission to fulfill. This was to find, catch and isolate the panda bear. After all, he was suspected of being the cause of one of the most serious epidemics of modern times. “The corona virus, on the other hand, was a trifle,” the agent was told, whose name may not be given for security reasons, not for data protection reasons. That’s why she now crawled through the undergrowth, using every camouflage, because after all, a panda bear was a pretty frightened creature. From time to time she just lay still and listened to the lush green surroundings. So far, she had found not one, but several tracks that could match her panda bear, but she had not yet seen him himself.

Saving animals is not enough (5)

What Tatjana had planned, she put into practice. It was so easy, much easier than she thought, to eat no animal products. The vegan community in particular was very supportive. Primarily when she was dealing with non-vegans, because that was one of the strangest experiences I’ve had to go through. As soon as someone found out that she did not eat cruelty to animals, she was ridiculed, at best, but mostly insulted and put down. She no longer understood the world. She tried as far as possible to avoid animal suffering and ultimately also human suffering, and was she attacked for that? She didn’t do anyone any harm, quite the opposite?

Saving animals is not enough (3)

Tatiana stood there not knowing what to say. She wanted to grab Balduin and run away with him, but then she looked at the little one and was sure that despite all the rejection she received, here was a place for him to live comfortably and happily.
„Because he has nowhere else to go and when I look at your animals, I’m sure that you won’t throw anyone out on the street,“ Tatjana said, trying to make her voice sound as confident as possible.
„And what do you think, who will bear the costs. You?” the woman continued to ask.
„I can’t, but I could help. They certainly need someone to clean up or feed the animals,“ said Tatjana, now becoming more confident, because why should the owner of the homestead keep asking if she didn’t at least consider taking Balduin in?

Saving animals is not enough (2)

Tatjana had bought dog food on her way. „I guess it will be enough by tomorrow,“ Tatjana thought as she watched the little dog eat. Eagerly he swallowed everything and then sat down next to the bowl, tail wagging, big, dark eyes hopefully directed at Tatjana. At that moment, the girl heard the apartment door open and her mother step into the hallway. Even before Tatjana could react, the puppy had rushed off to greet the newcomer. „Don’t prepare anything carefully,“ thought Tatjana, while she gathered all her courage and went to meet her mother. But the picture that Tatjana presented left her amazed.

Tatjana paused to make sure she had heard correctly and to locate the source of the whine. Then she sprinted off, through the archway into the inner courtyard of the apartment building. She ignored the heavy backpack being thrown on her back and her heart pounding with fear. Yes, she was afraid of what she would discover. The whimpering grew louder. Then finally she saw it, five young boys throwing stones at a small ball of fur. Booming laughter accompanied their macabre game.

The Christmas Miracle

Maria looked at the clock and was startled. „So late,“ she thought as she packed up the things she needed to visit her parents. It wasn’t a lot because she didn’t give normal gifts, as the saying goes, but homemade gifts. She liked the individuality and, above all, to think about what you could convert things into that you no longer needed yourself. She was convinced that she had made particularly beautiful pieces this year. Nevertheless, it was no coincidence that she delayed the moment of departure, actually until the last minute. Now she couldn’t wait any longer to go to her parents‘ house to celebrate Christmas with them.

The disposed Dog

„Only an hour more!“, I thought, „Then you’ll be home and I haven’t even started cooking.“ As always at the last minute, I tore myself from my work and began to prepare everything in the kitchen, what I needed to prepare an evening meal to feed a poor, tired man. „Shit, no rice.“ Another look at the clock. It would work out to go to the supermarket quickly and still start cooking in good time. If I couldn’t finish, then you’d just have to be patient for a few minutes. I dreaded the thought. You and be patient? No, it had to work out. So, I found myself in the middle of the worst snowfall we had seen in a long time.

Vegan Means Saying Yes to Life (2)

Half an hour later, Liv arrived at the vet. Just half an hour, which had seemed like an eternity. Nanna had run along well. Quite naturally. The veterinarian Dr. Wagenscheidt was still in the surgery, even though the office hour was over. He sat pensively behind the desk when Liv entered straight away with Nanna in tow and this tiny bundle of life in hands.
„Hello, Doctor!“ She gasped, still out of breath. The veterinarian slowly turned his gaze to the strange team.
„Greetings,“ replied the doctor, „what can I do for you? Isn’t that what I think? „
„I can’t say what you think and I don’t know what to do, but I feel like this baby will die if you don’t help him quickly,“ Liv said.
